iTampon iPad

iPad its all in the name.

Today while I was on Twitter I noticed one of the top Trending Topics was iTampon. I was like what is that all about. So I clicked the TT to see what others were saying. Then it became obvious. Apple had announced the name of their new device and they had chosen to call it the iPad.

There are tons of jokes all over Twitter and the rest of the internet relating the iPad name to a womans hygiene product, a tampon. A tampon is also known as a "pad" for short among women. It is very hard to believe that Apple would pick this name, especially after MadTV did a skit making fun of this. (See video below) At the time they called the new fictional Apple product the iPad. Yes thats right, the same exact name Apple picked to call their new product. The jokes in the video follow along the same lines as the jokes currently circulating the internet. This is just too funny. Was MadTV able to predict the future?

All this got me to thinking about how important it is to pick the proper name for your products. While its obvious Apple was keeping in line with their other products which have names like the iPhone, the iTouch, iTunes among others. It is clear they didn't seek the advice of any women and gave little to no thought about what else this name could mean or the jokes that would quickly be made about it. Even worse was the fact that a national TV show had already made jokes along the same lines in 2006 as the new ones. Yet they still chose to ignore that. Why oh why would they do such a thing?

While they say you can't buy publicity like this, not all publicity is good publicity. Especially when your product's name just became the laughing stock of the internet. When more people are poking fun at you when the Presidential State Of The Union is live than are talking about the STOU speech you just may have a problem on your hands here. What I'm alluding to is the fact that on Twitter in the U.S.A. the top Trending Topic was #iTampon during this STOU speech. Even in the Washington D.C. area it was the number one most talked about subject.

Please be sure to watch the YouTube video of the MadTV clip from 2006. If you have any iTampon jokes you would like to share you may add them to the comments section. But PLEASE remember to keep them clean. No foul language or anything that crosses the line. I will have to moderate the comments for obvious reasons. Sorry if I don't include your joke here but I must keep this acceptable according to HubPages.com's Terms Of Use. Besides we do not wish to offend anyone, right?
